Take Action during International Anti-Street Harassment Week

Right To Be would like to invite you to participate in the International Anti-Street Harassment Week, taking place from April 14th to 20th, 2024.

International Anti-Street Harassment Week is an opportunity to raise awareness, spark meaningful conversations, and take action to combat street harassment in all its forms.

Here are some ways you can get involved:

  1. Get trained.  75% of women have experienced sexual harassment in a public space at least once in their lives, according to a recent international social impact survey created by L’Oréal Paris in partnership with research partner Ipsos. The survey also revealed that people tend to adapt their behavior and attitudes to avoid situations of harassment in public spaces. We should all have the right to move freely in public spaces without fear, and without compromising who we are.One thing you can do to help you and others feel safer is to take the Stand Up Against Street Harassment training. This training, developed by Right To Be and L’Oréal Paris, teaches you how to safely intervene in instances of harassment, using Right To Be’s 5Ds methodology (Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, Direct). To see upcoming dates and times, visit this page.

2. Share your story: Sharing your stories of harassment brings visibility and shows the scope of the problem of harassment so that stakeholders can identify trends and take action to combat it. Your story can inspire others, create empathy, and help build a network of support for those who are feeling hopeless. Right To Be’s Hate and Hope tracker is a safe space where you can submit your story of hate and hope and receive support. In response to the rise of hate during the 2024 US Election, we also collect election-related hate and harassment stories and reports of hate that you see in the media or on social media.

3. Support the organizations hosting the Anti-Street Harassment Week:

    • Fill out the Red Dot Foundation’s survey to raise collective awareness around the issue of street harassment and share your actions during this Anti-Street Harassment Week.
    • Chalk Back, a global youth-led movement fighting street harassment with chalk,  has a vibrant social media presence, and they want to get everyone involved! Check out their social media here. Support the organizations hosting the Anti-Street Harassment Week:
And Spanish speakers: Check out Catcalls of DR’s 7 day challenge during #semanainternacionalcontraelacosocallejero
    • Follow Stop Street Harassment on Instagram to stay up to date on their latest actions!

We believe that, by coming together, we can help create communities filled with humanity where everyone feels respected and valued. Your involvement during this important week is crucial, and we look forward to your support as we strive to make lasting change.
