[[New York, February 22, 2023]] In response to the persistent police violence against Black communities, Right To Be (formerly Hollaback!), 1 Millihttps://righttobe.org/on Madly Motivated Moms (1M4) and ANJEL Tech have joined forces to offer free trainings on how to safely intervene and respond in the face of anti-Black police-sponsored violence. The trainings will include an interaction with guest speakers who are impacting the fight against police brutality. Trainings will be available to the public via Zoom, starting on February 28th, 2023 at 6 pm Eastern. This first session will be joined by Samuel Sinyangwe, founder of Mapping Police Violence. This training will focus on three of Right To Be’s 5Ds of bystander intervention: delegate, document, and delay. Participants will understand how to prioritize their own safety while intervening and responding to anti-Black police brutality. They will also get valuable tips on how to get usable footage as well as how to use documentation to intervene in hostile public interactions. 

“ We are no longer only depending on body cam and dash cam footage as proof for how someone was harmed, but we are preventing that harm by empowering the public to use proven strategies for documenting and directly promoting the safety of the community member during the time of need. The goal is that everyone gets home alive and that appropriate legal action and emotional healing can take place after the encounter,” ​​Tansy McNulty Founder & CEO of 1M4. 

The training will reflect on what anti-Black police-sponsored violence and anti-black racism look like and why they repeatedly exist. It will also discuss the deep impact harassment and violence have on Black communities.

“Black and Brown folks hold the burden of providing proof, seeking justice, and raising awareness when our communities experience police brutality, but there are not enough conversations on how we safely and effectively support each other in real-time. We are told to defer our power to policymakers and law enforcement. While more immediately, we need community care, healing, and space to process how we safely show up for each other as Black and Brown people when police violence is actively happening.
