Statement On Politically Motivated Hate During 2024 Elections From Right To Be

Last weekend, we saw politically motivated hate in its most extreme form: an attempted assassination of a former president.

Gun violence and politically motivated hate aren’t new; they are issues that everyday people in our country, especially folks in historically marginalized communities, are witnessing escalate first-hand. Hate has taken many forms so far, from ongoing harassment towards election officials and candidates running for office to legislative threats on trans children, adults, and women’s bodily autonomy – and most recently, the injuries and loss of life at the campaign rally in the recent assassination attempt. It is fair to say that many of you are already experiencing the day-to-day impacts of politically motivated hate.

Politicians who impose hateful rhetoric may test our ability to hold everyone in their full humanity because of the real harm they create in our lives. And yet, we at Right To Be remain resolute that breaking the cycle of violence is the response we must all embrace to take care of our communities.

We, too, are nervous about a rising tide of violent hate. We’ve been tracking hate against marginalized communities fueled by a divisive election season on our hate and hope tracker.  In the past few months alone, we’ve tracked over 400 incidents.

In the face of a deluge of hate, while we can’t stop the rain, we want to provide an umbrella so that you can best take care of your given and chosen families to disrupt the cycles of violence. As a resource throughout this election season, Right To Be is offering free live virtual trainings, including the three upcoming trainings available and open to all:

We’ve got your back. When communities are impacted by politically motivated violence, Right To Be promises to be on the front lines of addressing hate. We are unwavering in our commitment to empower you with the tools to show up in support of your community. We can turn adversity into strength together, building resilient communities that shine with hope and unity.

In addition to inviting you to attend these trainings, we encourage you to donate to help us continue this work and ramp up our free sessions to meet these difficult moments of politically motivated hate.

We believe in the power of collective action. We’re in this together, and together, we will continue to create a world free of hate and harassment and filled with humanity.
