Bystander Intervention to Support the LGBTQIA+ Community

Harassment toward the LGBTQIA+ community is unacceptable, yet it is still prevalent and affecting those most vulnerable. In response to this persistent problem, we created training to address the complicated issues the LGBTQIA+ community faces.

Join us and start your journey to better support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Training Description
What will you learn?

This one-hour, interactive training will teach you the 5Ds of bystander intervention methodology and how these strategies can be used to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

We’ll start by talking about the types of disrespect that LGBTQIA+ folx are facing right now — including stigma, discrimination, and harassment stemming from misinformation about the current monkeypox outbreak in the U.S. — using a tool we call the “spectrum of disrespect.” You’ll learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities. We’ll talk through five strategies for intervention: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct; and how to prioritize your own safety while intervening.

We’ll have time at the end for practice, and you’ll leave feeling more confident intervening the next time you see anti-LGBTQIA+ harassment.
